Proper Job Recycling Center has been awarded £7500 from the ‘Awards for All’ Lottery Fund

 09/02/2016

It has been a busy few months here at Proper Job, and we are please to announce that we have been awarded £7500 from the ‘Awards for All’ lottery fund to develop the south westerly corner of our site. We received planning permission from the Dartmoor National Park in Septemnber 2015, and we have been fundraising ever since to reach out target. We plan to build a pole barn which will cover what is for now ‘Bric a Brac’ and Electricals. The pole barn will not only protect the already weathered porta cabins, it will help to make the site more aesthetically pleasing and in keeping with the National Park’s criteria.

Further more we plan to expand our sales area we will create two new sales rooms. One will house ‘Cots and Tots’ (a clean dry area for buggys, baby baths and cots), and a new ‘Media’ section which will be the new home for records, CD’s, DVD’s and household electricals. We are always looking for new ways to promote recycling and reuse, and we pride our selves in providing a broad service for local people.

Proper Job was established in 1995 by local people keen to maximise local resources and build local employment, the Resource Centre diverts waste from landfill and provides local re-use and recycling facilities in this rurally isolated area.  We are committed to sustainability principles and local job creation, and offer training and skill sharing workshops to promote the benefits of reusing, recycling and reducing in this modern age.

Each year, the Proper Job Resource Centre diverts over 100 tonnes of waste from landfill, and supports over 200 low income families by providing low cost, recycled household goods.  Proper Job is supported by around 15 volunteers a year, employs 20 local people and is supported within the community.

The Resource Centre takes an enterprising approach and is currently strategically focused upon building our capacity to generate earned income through the sale of a diverse range of waste streams.

Proper Job addresses rural disadvantages and social exclusion by providing locally available and affordable goods and services that would not otherwise be available to many in this rurally isolated area.  We serve residencies within a 10 mile radius of the Resource Centre, home to approximately 13,000 individuals.

The Resource Centre reduces the need for local communities to access council run facilities that are situated over 12 miles away. Proper Job provides essential support for families on low income by providing life's necessities at a fraction of the original cost.

Proper Job is a unique, inspirational flag ship project which has been visited by many over the years wanting to set up their own recycling projects. We started as a composting project over 20 years ago and have grown to promote the full range of reuse and recycling. We not only save valuable resources from wasteful disposal but also provide a much valued and well supported service.

Our main objective in to increase public awareness of the need to conserve resources and reduce waste. Proper Job is committed to the principals of local stainability enabling people to make more sustainable choices in their lifestyles and patterns of consumption and disposal.

If you would like to get involved with Proper Job please get in touch recycling(at)proper-job.org. Or come to our Spring Clean Volunteers day on 23rd April 2016. We will be painting, cleaning fixing and planting flowers around the site. We would love to hear from you.
