Where does the money raised go?

The funds raised by this project enable us to achieve our vision of a protected and preserved natural environment. Helping local people to take active and positive responsibility for their waste. Resources are conserved and our rural community is healthier and more resilient.

  • We promote waste reduction by advancing the education of the public about all aspects of waste generation and promoting reduce, reuse, recycling through events and workshops.
  • We conserve the natural environment, promoting and advancing education, enabling, and encouraging composting thereby, increasing biodiversity and improving local soil heath.
  • We provide a service, maintaining and running a community a resource centre and shop improving the facilities and infrastructure to support our growing service users.
  • We are building a sustainable community providing meaningful employment and volunteering opportunities. Supporting local people to be more resourceful and achieve positive environmental, social and economic impact.
How do I donate items for reuse?

You will need to make an appointment to book a donation slot with Proper Job. This is so we can allow time to help you to unload and begin to process your donations with due care and attention. We offer donation slots on everyday of the week, please call 01647432985 and select the Resource Centre to make an appointment.

How do I donate furniture to Proper Job?

If you are donating furniture items they will need to be approved by the yard manager to ensure that they are appropriate for reuse and we have enough space to accommodate in our furniture barn. Please note that all soft furnishing must adhere to furniture fire safety regulations, they are a set of regulations in the UK that govern the fire resistance of domestic upholstered furniture, furnishings, and other products containing upholstery. These regulations are designed to improve fire safety by setting standards for the flammability of these items. Please check your items for a fire regulation ticket which will ensure that the item is safe for reuse. Please do not hesitate to call us for more information and email us pictures of your prospective donations to donations@proper-job.org.

Can I donate to Uptown?

Sorry we are unable to accept donations at Uptown due to restricted storage space. Please call for an appointment to drop your items to the Resource Centre site. Please do not leave your donations outside the shop when the shop is closed because they run the risk of being stolen, causing a trip hazard and being soiled from bad weather conditions.

What is Gift Aid?

When you donate items to us and they are sold, we can claim Gift Aid on the money made from the sale. This means that if you are a UK taxpayer and you agree to Gift Aid, the charity can claim 25p for every £1 made from selling your donated items. This can boost the value of your donation without costing you any extra.

How can I become a volunteer

Proper Job offers a range of volunteering roles to help us on site, in store and in administrational roles. We are specifically interested in volunteers with experience in retail, customer services, reuse and repair as well as marketing and social media. If you would like to get involved please get in touch.

Do you have a public toilet?

No, sorry we do not currently have a public toilet at the Proper Job site, the closest is in Chagford Square.

Do you have wheelchair access?

The customer car park is a short walk to the main yard. We can offer a small number of disabled parking spaces on the yard for those who may struggle to walk from the car park. These spaces on the yard are also available for parent and baby parking.

Unfortunately, the site itself isn’t the most accessible, and wheelchair users may find it difficult to get around due to the nature of the buildings.

Can you collect my donations?

Yes we do offer a collection service for large bulky items such as reclamation and furniture. We have a 3.5 tonne box van. Please note that we can only collect items within a 10mile radius of Proper Job Resource Centre. If the second-hand retail value of the items you donate is less than £100 we will have to charge you a small fee to collect, this covers the cost of running the van and supplying trained employees to handle heavy items. The value of the items will be determined by the yard manager. We hope that you understand that we must charge to offer this service if your donations are below the £100 threshold.
