Marine Plastics Talk Followed by a Plastic Free Workshop
We are in the midst of a plastic pollution crisis. The facts and figures of the situation are shocking, with around 8 million metric tonnes of plastic entering our oceans every year and enough plastic discarded every year to circle the earth four times, seriously effecting our environment and destroying our marine life.
The first of these special plastic free events is a talk by Dr Ceri Lewis, Senior Lecturer in Marine Biology at University of Exeter. Dr Lewis has been working on the impacts of microplastics for over 10 years, and she has just been awarded the 2018 Social Impact Winner of the NERC Science of the Environment Award. If you wish to book for this fascinating talk please book the 2-3pm time slot ticket.
Proper Job will then be collaborating with Yonder Meadow Wraps and Chagford Residents Against Plastic to host a Plastic Free Workshop. We will be making our own beeswax wraps, the ideal alternative to cling film, with fantastic local company Yonder Meadow Wraps.
There will be plenty of alternative plastic free products from The Courtyard Cafe and Shop on offer to discover and purchase and you can learn about plastic reducing tips and ideas from our local plastic free group C.R.A.P! Also, find out about what plastics can be recycled at the Proper Job Resource Centre through our partnership with TerraCycle, such as crisp wrappers, toothpaste tubes and baby food packaging.
The workshop costs £5 + booking fee and the workshop is open to all, however children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult. For the workshop please book the 3-4.30pm slot ticket. If you wish to come to both events please remember to book both tickets.
Proper Job will also be hosting a plastics free coffee morning from 10am-12pm prior to the workshop, please do call in for a coffee and a piece of cake.
